By June 1917 a combination of admiration for women’s war work and judicious lobbying by suffragists parliament passed the ‘Representation of the People’s Bill’ which gave the vote to nearly 9 million women. Not all women were given suffrage but it was a significant start. (Restrictions were still applied to male suffrage).
